CEA Sponsors Forum on Assembly Bill 1127
November 21, 2000
Continuing its efforts to educate its building contractor members about the serious implications of Cal-OSHA violations imposed by Assembly Bill 1127, the Construction Employers’ Association recently sponsored a safety seminar in Concord.
Attorney Robert Peterson, whose law firm represents many employers in Cal/OSHA matters throughout the state, addressed the topic of AB 1127, providing an analysis of the bill and OSHA’s current multiemployer enforcement policy. Peterson discussed the consequences of Cal-OSHA citations, including the potential for criminal sanctions. He provided participants with advice and step-by-step written procedures to follow in the event of a serious incident on a jobsite.
Forum attendees participated in a question and answer exchange with six panel members discussing current industry practices in the post-AB 1127 environment. The panel was composed of both field and office personnel of CEA member firms, including Billy Blair, safety officer and general superintendent, Lem Construction, Inc.; Kevin Miller, project manager, McClone Construction Company; Jerry Overaa, owner and president, C. Overaa & Company; Don Romano, project manager, Hallmark Construction, Inc. and Rod Verrips, safety director, Webcor Builders.
