CEA San Francisco Contractors Hold Labor-Management Conference With Building Trades Leaders

June 6, 2000

The Construction Employers’ Association (CEA) and the San Francisco Building Trades Council held their second joint labor/management conference recently at the Cathedral Hill Hotel in San Francisco.

The conference, attended by more than 50 building industry and labor leaders, was chaired by Charlie Kuffner, Senior Vice President/Division Manager, Swinerton & Walberg Company and Stan Smith, Secretary/Treasurer, San Francisco Building Trades Council.

The primary theme of the conference was the recognition that the building construction industry needs to recruit more qualified people at all levels and provide quality training.

At the conference, the importance of labor and management working cooperatively together was emphasized and widely acknowledged. To this end, several joint labor/management subcommittees were established.

In addition, CEA and representatives from the San Francisco Building Trades will continue to be actively involved with the San Francisco Unified School District in developing an effective curriculum for 9th through 12th graders to enter careers in construction and engineering.
